Picture it. You've all been there. Whether it be a Friday night bar crawl or a random Tuesday night excursion with a friend, you've all come across your neighborhood dive bar perhaps walking distance to your Chicago apartment.
The dive bar is an institution in Chicago and its roots are deep. Newer bars come and go but the dive bar thrives on sameness. It's that place with the old, slightly yellowed sign around the corner that creaks in the wind; a beacon for regulars to talk politics, watch the big game, and have a drink or two...or three. Hell, you can even bring your dog with you sometimes.
Every neighborhood has at least one, and everyone has a favorite. So we thought it might be nice to have a few of our staff members share some of their favorites with you. Maybe you can enjoy one of these spots if it's convenient to your Lincoln Park, Lakeview or Ukrainian Village apartment rental.

Paty's Pub - 2825 N Lincoln - West Lincoln Park (Near Lincoln & Diversey)
Not to be confused with Paddy's Pub on the popular "Always Sunny in Philadelphia" TV show...You'll feel right at home at this cozy, quiet neighborhood bar. Paty's Pub has a classic dive bar atmosphere. It's dark and dim and can probably only seat about 25-30 people before it starts to get uncomfortable. Perfect place to meet with friends, watch sports, and drink cheap beer! Paty's has some awesome food and drink specials. Go on Thursday nights for 45 cent JUMBO wings. They're some of the biggest and best in town! This is the place to be if you're looking to get away from loud music and large crowds!

Inner Town Pub - 1935 West Thomas - Ukrainian Village (Near Damen & Augusta)
Way back when, Inner Town was a Prohibition era speakeasy and that former identity still resonates. The decor really creates an old world, vintage vibe. Dark. Drab. Lots of darkwood trim throughout. The ceilings and walls are littered with stained glass lights and windows with dark amber hues. Weathered signs and antique fixtures dwell above the bar along with a full size Elvis statue, most of which hasn't moved since the bar's inception in the early eighties. There's a free pool table, dart board, photo booth, and of course, really cheap beer specials. They have one large TV for various sporting events and random retro movies, but it's really just an afterthought. They have open mic nights on Thursdays and Sundays. Eclectic jukebox! Highly recommended. And remember, CASH ONLY!

Ravens - 2326 N Clark - Lincoln Park (Near Clark & Fullerton)
In a sea of hip new Lincoln Park watering holes, Ravens provides it's locals with an affordable, straightforward dive bar experience. Upon walking into this cavernous Lincoln Park institution, you're immediately overwhelmed with the aromas of freshly popped butter popcorn (It's free by the way). It attracts all walks of life, from your local happy hour crowd to your 3:00 am night owls looking for a 4:00 am bar to close out the night. The bar staff is eccentric and definitely project a friendly neighborhood bar appeal. This is a cash only bar but has graciously provided an ATM inside to assist everyone. Also, there is a new jukebox there to play your favorite music as long as the local sports team isn't playing that evening.
